Massage and your Mental Health

How Can Sports Therapy and Massage Help with Mental Health?

As Mental Health conditions are more readily diagnosed and people are more in-tune with their mental health, people are looking for more treatment options available to them. Feelings like anxiety and stress are the most common symptoms that have been proven to reduce post-treatment.

At Limitless Therapy Clinic, we do not claim to be experts in the area of mental health (if you are suffering, we recommend you see your GP or Therapist) but clients regularly note feeling calmer and more relaxed after treatments.

During treatment, relaxation can occur in both psychological and physiological terms. Psychological relaxation occurs due to a reduction in the release of the stress hormone - cortisol. While reducing the stress hormones within the body, it can also increase the release of endorphins like Serotonin and Dopamine (these are released during moments of happiness and relaxation).

Massage, through its mechanism, will increase tissue temperature. As therapists, we will increase blood circulation, which brings heat; this heat will soften the muscle tissue which often becomes tense and rigid when we are stressed and anxious.

These combined effects can help lead to:

  1. Clarity of Mind

  2. Reduced Stress

  3. Relaxation

  4. Increased Energy

Massage can be very useful for relaxation prior to, or following a stressful event. The benefits are vast and different for each individual.
